PSHE
At Rosehill, we Do everything in love and this underpins our PSHE curriculum, in terms of love of ourselves, other people and the world around us. Our key curriculum drivers – Community, Aspiration and Resilience – are at the forefront of learning in PSHE.
PSHE lessons teach children to persevere and have strategies to approach challenges, learn more about the working world and appreciate diversity. Children at Rosehill live out the values of Compassion, Friendship and Forgiveness every day and this is woven into our teaching of PSHE, both in discrete lessons and in all aspects of school life.
The PSHE curriculum at Rosehill focuses on ensuring that children
- can explain how to keep themselves safe
- know what constitutes healthy relationships
- can explain how to keep themselves healthy, both mentally and physically
- are equipped for the next stage of their education, particularly those moving onto secondary school
- are confident to voice their opinion on a range of scenarios and stand up for what they know is right
- will demonstrate and apply the British Values of Democracy, Tolerance, Mutual respect, Rule of law and Liberty
In Autumn 2024, we introduced myHappymind to Rosehill. myHappymind is an NHS-backed curriculum and is focused on building resilience, self-esteem, and happiness in children. These lessons help our children understand the science behind how their brains work and how to impact their self esteem and resilience.
All year groups will complete learning about 5 key strands during the year:
- Meet the Brain
- Celebrate
- Appreciate
- Relate
- Engage
We also use mHappymind’s brilliant ‘happy breathing’ videos to take mindful breaks during the school day. These are available through the parent app.
Alongside myHappymind, we use 1Decision materials to deliver teaching about how to stay safe, stay healthy and make responsible decisions. This involves the children watching scenarios and making decisions.
RSE
Relationships and Sex Education is now compulsory in primary schools. We use 1Decision materials to deliver government approved, age-appropriate lessons in year 3-6 during the summer term. Parents are informed in advance of these lessons and provided with information about their content.
Year 4 – healthy and unhealthy relationships
Year 5 – puberty
Year 6 – conception
